![]() Session viewįor anyone who still questions the quality of Live’s sound engine, there are a few improvements here. I/O Renaming lets producers easily select the right routing by labeling Live’s inputs and outputs to match the instruments and hardware in the studio.Note chasing triggers MIDI notes even if playback starts in the middle-the note doesn’t need to be started from the beginning to hear pads or other sustained notes.Groups within groups improves Set organization even with lots of tracks and a detailed arrangement-multiple tracks and groups can be folded together for a simple overview.Browser Collections provide at-a-glance access to favorite or most-used musical elements.Arrangement View improvements such as nudging, time stretching, one-key zooming and drag-and-drop track duplication make editing faster and easier.Multiple MIDI clip editing shows the content of two or more clips in one view for better control of the musical relationships in a song. This is just tip of the iceberg though: listed below are all the rest of Live 10’s workflow improvements (in Ableton’s words): Ableton says these aren’t just for guitars but warming up vocals, drums and synths too.Įvery new version of every DAW promises “workflow refinements”, but Live 10 has one idea that sounds very intriguing: Capture, a new feature that “recalls an idea after it has been played and turns it into a MIDI clip with feel and groove intact”. ![]() There’s also three new effects: Echo, which looks to be an experimental echo plugin with analog and digital qualities Drum Buss, an “an all-in-one drum sculpting tool for adding warmth, adjusting transient response, injecting low end and more” and Pedal, which uses circuit-level modelling to create virtual guitar pedals for overdrive distortion and fuzz. Live’s Analog and Operator synths are fairly ancient now, but this looks like something that might be able to go up against relatively more modern instruments like NI’s Form and Xfer’s Serum. There’s a modulation system built in, along with modelled analog filters. The big new instrument is Wavetable, which, as the name suggests, is a wavetable synth that uses waveforms from analog synths and other instruments to model sounds. There’s also some freshly optimized themes for better visibility in different situations (such as the darker theme below). There’s nothing radically different, but there’s a new font (the same one displayed by the Push controller) so everything looks a bit cleaner and more contemporary. It’s not immediately obvious, but Live 10 has a new look. ![]() There’s a lot of new features to list, so there’s a breakdown of them all after the Live 10 intro video embedded below. This toolkit for building synths, effects and more has been an add-on since it launched in 2009, but the integration means Max for Live devices will load faster and use less CPU power too. However, the most significant change is that Max for Live is now fully integrated into Live. It’s a big change that will help the now two-year-old Push compete with NI’s brand new Maschine controller. There’s a new step-sequencing layout that will display notes on the screen at the top. Live 10 also transforms the functionality of Ableton’s second-generation Push controller. There’s a new synth called Wavetable, three new effects, lots of changes to help you make music faster and redesigned sound libraries. The first impression of Live 10’s gigantic list of improvements is that it’s the most significant update to the DAW since Live 7 arrived in 2007. Thankfully, there’s not much longer to wait for the next full version of the popular software studio: Ableton has just announced that Live 10 will arrive early next year. It’s been nearly five years since Ableton Live got a major update, with 2013’s Live 9 now looking increasingly long in the tooth next to its rivals. ![]() ![]() ![]() What you need to do is manually tell it to charge to full before taking it off charge if you need more battery capacity. If it was one of the newer machines with the optimized battery charging option in system preferences, chances are the battery discharged quickly because it was holding charge at a lower amount to maintain battery health. As an extreme example, a 5 year old Intel Air running Photoshop at max brightness is going to have significantly shorter battery life than a brand new M2 Air being used for basic web browsing. What MacBook Air model was it, how old was it, and what were you using it for? Usually when people complain about fast discharge its because of how they're using it or the computer is old. Battery discharged quickly when taking it off charge.Constantly cycling the battery by trying to keep it between 40% and 80% is much worse for the battery. Yes, that's why even if you leave it plugged in, optimized battery charging will hold it at a lower capacity and then discharge and recharge as needed to maintain overall health. Not using the battery for long periods of time is bad for the battery. It only takes about a couple of days use for optimized battery charging to start changing charging patterns to match your use. There's a lot of incorrect misconceptions to unpack in your post: I’ve just officially plugged it in, though I’m not using it today at all, and set it up so that the cord goes through the intended hole in the desk and won’t have to be unplugged or moved unless I’m going to take the laptop and use it as a laptop! Thank you, again! I’ve always had optimized charging on, but for some reason didn’t quite understand how to best utilize it, and was still unplugging it at the end of each work day, since switching it to my daily work driver. I just recently switched to using my M1 MBA full time for work, connected to my 27” monitor and open so the MBA display can also be used as an extended monitor. For some reason, this piece of information was what I’d always been missing and was therefor what made me anxious.įor the past year, I only used my MacBook for my music/video hobbies, surfing the web, steaming and other personal things, so it was always on the side of my desk opposite my work setup and I plugged it in when it needed to be charged (every two-ish days), since the only convenient outlet made it so the charging cord ran behind my chair when in use. I wanted to thank you for explaining what likely seems common sense, to most people, regarding the MacBook only using power from the outlet when plugged in/on optimized battery charging. In fact, before they embraced synthesizers and 9/8 time signatures, the original Genesis aspired to craft hits as behind-the-scenes songwriters. It was also found that irrigation at night got better results, as the process was more effective at lower temperatures. This, he added, created a slight but beneficial degree of stress. At Opus One, Mr Silacci says, they found that the vines’ roots could be made to go deeper by “increasing the intervals between irrigations and by increasing the volume of each irrigation”. But there are different approaches to it. ![]() ![]() Irrigation is allowed in California, where precipitation follows a different pattern from most of Europe. (As Christian Moueix once said to me – about the ‘88 clarets – “you can’t make great wines without great grapes”). Michael Silacci is an unassuming, scholarly-Iooking man with square shoulders (and jaw) and dark-rimmed spectacles. The Grand Chai - Opus One maturing in the wood. One can imagine that quite a bit of “promotion” preceded the sale – the current price for the wine is around $300 the bottle. Two years later a case of that vintage was sold at auction for US$ 24,000 – reportedly the highest price ever paid for a California wine. The first fruit of the project was the 1979 Opus One, which predictably attracted worldwide attention. Opus One was jointly launched in the late 1970s by P hilippe de Rothschild, proprietor of Mouton-Rothschild in Pauillac, and Robert Mondavi, pioneer wine maker in the Napa Valley. He adopted his present career in 1978, when “I fell in love with wine and two-hour lunches!” The holder of a master’s degree in viticulture from the University of California, Davis, he has made wines in Oregon, France, and Chile and closer to home was for six years wine-maker at Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, also in California. Including the 1979, the very first vintage, the eight wines were personally chosen by Michael Silacci, who has been in charge of wine-making since 2004. A tasting of eight of the best-ever vintages of Opus One, California’s most celebrated red wine, was recently hosted in London by the Masters of Wine. ![]() If you are interested in buying just the brass plaque to replace a lost or damaged plaque, please contact me and we will see if we can confirm that your Addams Pinball machine is an authentic Gold machine. "It's not something that's overcomplicated," said Callum Fraser, manager of the Glenfarclas distillery. There are seemingly endless varieties of Scotch whisky, yet the methods and ingredients remain true to how it was produced hundreds of years ago. And, most importantly, I would decide afterwards whether to keep it, sell it or open it. I would visit distilleries and meet the people who make it. So I decided to go to Scotland's famed Speyside region in the rugged Highlands, where most of the country's whisky production happens. I resolved that if I was going to open the most valuable bottle of whisky I've ever owned (and possibly ruin all other whiskies for me), I would first learn everything I could about it. Should I keep it, hoping the value increases? Should I sell it now and spend the money? Or should I open it, perhaps to mark a special enough occasion? And if so, what occasion would be appropriately special? I was honoured by this gift, but I also found myself feeling a strange sense of unease. Then he showed me the bottle's label: The Glenlivet, Special Jubilee Reserve, aged 25 years.
